Description of activity
Bedelsford School is a Foundation Special School. The school offers the following specialist range of provision to support children with Physical Disabilities, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Multisensory Impairments and Complex learning disabilities including complex health needs.
A number of teaching staff, including the Leadership Team, have MA/ Postgraduate diplomas in the education of pupils with Physical Disabilities, Severe, Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, multi sensori, visual and Hearing Impairment and autism. A member of the Leadership Team is a Specialist Leader in Education (SEN). The school has supported staff in achieving Higher Level Teaching Assistant status. In addition to research and curriculum specific training, staff receive regular training each Tuesday in Makaton, Multisensory Impairment, Picture Exchange Communication System, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Complex Needs, Safe feeding/dysphagia, medical interventions, OT/Physio and movement techniques, positive behaviour techniques, moving and handling and other related SEN guidance.
Classes are small with approximately ten pupils in each class with teaching support on hand depending on the needs of the class.
There is a therapy room, Hydrotherapy pool and Specialist Interactive Sensory Rooms, a sensory theatre, a Science Room, Design and Technology Room and a Communication Support Base which provides support and an optimum learning environment supported by the availability of strong visual cues for pupils with Autism as part of their diagnosis.
